Missionary penny jars

At the general church meeting in April, it was decided that the charity we at Sandylands will support for 2010-2011 is CBC University of Life or UNIVIDA for its Brazilian name (which educates and supports over 375 children from the slums in Fortaleza Brazil). Last year, we supported Mechanics for Africa, and raised the amazing total of around £1700! Of this, nearly £350 came through penny jars. Please continue to support the new charity in the same way. Please give any penny jars you still have to Beth Dennis, who is our contact person for Univida…Thank you.

Soup lunch

Table top sale

Saturday 22nd May – for the Church building project. Plans are now being made for this event. We will need some helpers on the day for stalls, coffee etc, help to set up the tables etc on the evening before, and help to clear up and tidy the building at 1pm at the end of the sale. Please support this event and offer help where you are able. Please let us know asap if you would like your own table. Bric a brac, books, cakes and produce, and plants will all be needed for the church stalls please. If you can take a poster for advertising please let us know. Harp concert

Annie Mawson (international harpist & singer) with the Sunbeams Concert Troupe at the URC onFriday 23rd April at 7.30pm. Free entry – exit by donation!! In aid of Sunbeams Music Trust and the Alzheimer’s society.

Building project fundraising

Catering for visitors is a really effective and ejoyable way of fundraising and we would like church members to help promote this for next year. If you have friends and relatives who are likely to visit Kendal please consider enclosing a copy of the invitation with your Christmas cards, so that they can let church and other social groups etc khow whaqt we can provide encouraging them to come to this area for a day trip or holiday.

Building Project Fund Raising:

Father Christmas float – 3 more ‘definites’ needed to volunteer for collecting with the Lions Club on Tuesday 15th December, sharing the money collected. PLEASE see Tony or Kath Dennison asap.
Quiz money to Ivy or Wendy asap please – closing date 9th November.
How is your ‘Silver for Sandylands’ collection going? The little bottles are just the place for those fiddly 5 pences! To date £89.52 has been collected. More bottles available.
Wednesday evening, November 11th – we are having a stall at Queen Katherine School’s Craft Fayre – sweets, preserves, cards, jewellery and more. Do come along

2 future events for fund raising- watch for more details to come.

1. We hope to have a Table-Top sale(in-door car boot) in the New Year. Please think if you would like to have a stall of your own, or keep items for a church stall – an opportunity to have a clear-out for Spring.
2. Andrew and Samuel have each volunteered to do a sponsored head-shave – soon!!!

Lastly, a suggestion has been made that we might be able to raise money for church by selling unwanted items on e-Bay. This would need someone with the necessary IT know-how who would manage the sales procedure and post off the parcels. If anyone is interested in looking at this further please speak to Wendy or Sarah.
