Church Council report

The following is a summary of the discussion and decisions of the church council meeting held last week

  • There was a very positive financial report and the meeting was encouraged by the increase in giving. There is a need to monitor the finances of the community worker project as some of the funding has now come to an end.
  • The group who are moving forward with the Building Development project are at a stage to commission an architect to help us get a clearer idea of costs and possibilities.
  • It was reported that 5 of our members have been training as worship leaders.
  • There was a discussion about various aspects of worship and ideas for developing what we do. It was decided to stop the second Sunday praise service for the time being but to encourage all those involved in leading our worship to take seriously the need to be contemporary and relevant. We are looking at having a series of services on a theme.
  • We are to have occasional joint evening services with St George’s church.
  • Suggestions for preachers for next years anniversary would be welcomed.
  • There was  a positive report about Activ8 and Energize our midweek youth clubs.
  • We need someone to coordinate transport for people to get to church  - any volunteers?
  • We had a discussion about raffles and agreed that we would not run raffles at our own events but would allow outside groups to hold raffles under the strict Methodist Church guidelines.
  • Meetings are planned for January 19th, March 30th ( General Church Meeting),  June 8th, October 5th.
